Phil Spector, legendary rock music producer (Beach Boys, The Beatles) stands accused of murder in California. The previous trial, for the same murder, occurred in September 2007, where jurors failed to reach a decision.

Mr Spector was “a charmer” when he was “outside of these maniacal episodes”.

“But when he’s drinking, he loses it and becomes a demon,” she told Los Angeles Superior Court.

On one occasion, Mr Spector turned toward a woman leaving a party and said: “I ought to put a bullet in her head right now,” Mr Tannazzo said.

Lawyers for the prosecution also played phone messages which Mr Spector has left for Ms Melvin in which he apologised for striking her with a gun and chasing her while brandishing a shotgun.

In the message, he warned: “Be very careful what you say to me, because nothing you say is worth your life.”

Ms Melvin said, that following the incident, “I didn’t want to be alone with Phil again”.

“I thought he was dangerous,” she added.

Rumors are circulating thet Joaquin Phoenix’s use of drugs may have helped his decision to retire from acting to ‘focus on music’.

The two-time Oscar nominee (”Walk the Line” and “Gladiator”) showed up to a tribute to Paul Newman last week in San Francisco and “was out of it,” said one attendee. Other actors were performing scenes and readings, but Phoenix just got up and walked out. “He wobbled back in a bit later, but it was odd,” said our source. “He was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet.”

John Daly, infamous professional golfer known both for his prodigious drive and his penchant for smoking and drinking while on the PGA Tour was arrested at a Hooter’s restaurant in WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina.

Police said in a statement Wednesday that said officers went to the restaurant on a medical call. When they arrived, Daly was being treated by emergency workers after losing consciousness.

While at the restaurant, police said Daly “appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative,” refused repeatedly to be taken to the hospital and was asked to leave the restaurant by several workers.

Steven Page, of Canadian rockband The Barenaked Ladies, had his Cocaine charge reduced by a New York state judge today, in return for ‘good behavior’. Good news eh!

A drug charge against Barenaked Ladies singer-guitarist Steven Page was significantly reduced Tuesday by an upstate New York court.

The felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and the 38-year-old musician was given what’s called an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which means the charges will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for six months.

A new biography of Heath Ledger - entitled Heath: A Family’s Tale - reveals his uncle Haydn suffers from the depressive condition, and suggests it might have run in the family. The book goes on to claim that Ledger may indeed have been suffering from Bipolar disorder - does this hint at a possible connection to suicide?
